12 Winning Marketing Strategies For Twitter

Posted by

Twitter is still a great marketing platform, at 300 million users monthly, it’s a good place to sell your brand. There are 500 million tweets published daily, this means you need a winning strategy to stand out and here are some you can use:

  1. IT ALL STARTS WITH YOUR HANDLE

Try to keep your handle on Twitter consistent across all social media platforms. H&M does this so well.

Their Twitter handle is simply “hm” and that’s the same handle on Facebook, Instagram, and other social apps, that’s consistency.

It makes it easier for people from other platforms to find you even if you’re not as big as H&M.

  1. GET A BIO THAT’S PERFECT FOR BUSINESS AND ATTRACTIVE

You can use your bio to establish your brand as an authority and attract followers even with 160 characters.

When you think of the company Tesla, what’s the first thing that comes to your mind?

Elon Musk, electric cars, and renewable energy, right? Now, look at the Tesla bio.

It tells you what the company is about, and if you’re interested in reducing the world’s carbon emissions, you’ll want to give them a follow.

  1. GET ON HASHTAG TRENDS EARLY ENOUGH

There’s always something trending on Twitter and these topics generally control the conversations of the day.

Use the Explore tab or search bar on Twitter and you’ll get a list of the top trends for that moment.

Tweeting early enough on a new trend is the perfect way to gain traction on a new tweet, especially when you’re getting those early likes and retweets.

  1. FIND OUT HOW PEOPLE FEEL ABOUT A TWEET

If you’re trying to figure out the kind of receptions a tweet that’s not on your account is receiving, there are two ways to do it.

The first way involves looking at the direct replies but you probably know that already. The second way involves a little trick.

Get to the tweet you’re trying to analyze and click on “copy link to tweet.”

Then paste that link in the Twitter search bar and delete the question mark and everything after it.

This will produce all the responses to the tweet that weren’t direct replies under the thread.

  1. ADD AN IMAGE

Tweets with images will receive 89% more likes and 150% more retweets.

Don’t just tweet, get a picture to go with it.

  1. LET YOUR HEADER IMAGE BLEND WITH YOUR PROFILE PICTURE

Your header image isn’t the place to use conflicting colours, keep it simple and try to make it a more descriptive version of your profile picture.

Target does this so well.

  1. USE POLLS TO INTERACT WITH FOLLOWERS

Twitter, like Facebook and Instagram, has an option that allows you to create polls. Polls are more engaging than tweets, in the example, there are only 16 likes as compared to 422 votes.

You can use polls to get feedback from your audience on a new product or service you launched.

  1. USE CTAs TO BOOST ENGAGEMENT

A retweet is more valuable in engagement currency than likes/favourites, most tweets have more of the latter than the format.

Using a few CTAs in your tweet contributes to this, so be aggressive with them, you can do this yourself or get a social media marketing agency to help you.

Tell people to “please retweet” and “follow” if they like the content from your account.

  1. FUNNEL TRAFFIC TO YOUR WEBSITE

You have one spot in your bio to drive traffic off Twitter, that should go directly to your website or your email list

You have little control over Twitter as the algorithm can get you suspended even when you do nothing.

Sometimes, you can tweet something that gets you into Twitter hall of fame, when this happens, create a thread and promote your website content under that tweet.

  1. DON’T MIX BUSINESS WITH PLEASURE

In Twitter terms, this just means not using one account for your personal and business handle.

If you’re someone who reacts to a lot of the trending topics on Twitter, and a lot of these are controversial, you can get yourself in trouble using your business account to send out your personal opinion on a trending topic.

  1. ANALYZE EVERYTHING

When you’re just starting on Twitter, they’re probably a lot of things you’ll be doing wrong, proper analysis allows you to see these mistakes so you can correct them.

Competitor analysis helps you discover the strategies that are working for others so you can apply them on your account and you can do all these with services like Crowdfire

  1. JUMP IN AND HAVE FUN ON TRENDING QUESTIONS

Every day or two, there are these questions on twitter that get so popular everyone starts responding to them.

Here’s the Microsoft Excel team on one, so feel free to get in with a witty comment on these types of questions.

CONCLUSION

Twitter is a great way to promote and grow your business but that only works if you’re using the right strategies and you can use the ones in this post.
